EDSA Wasn't a Yellow Victory

EDSA wasn't a yellow victory!

People didn't troop to EDSA 31 years ago carrying a yellow flag, they went there carrying the Philippine flag. We went there carrying the hope for a new nation.

We didn't have anyone in particular to be our champion, but we hoped someone who loved the country would take up that cross.

We were misled into believing that the Aquino's and the Cojuangcos had the country's best interests at heart that they would lead us into a new beginning. But oh, were we wrong, so wrong. 31 years have passed and there has been no substantial gain. We have in fact moved backwards. What was taken back by the PCGG was again squandered by the same people in government. The trust was turned to disillusionment, The hope turned to apathy. Patriotism turned to a mass exodus out of the country to escape the new virus of corruption that swept through our land like an unstoppable brush fire.

So what exactly are we celebrating on the 25th of February?

It is actually the antithesis of celebration, it is the memory of the day our dreams were shattered.

This is the clarion call for people to wake up and always remember that change starts from within. We should not expect change to happen if we are not willing to change ourselves. Duterte is the catalyst of change for many, he cannot change the Philippines on his own. Let's be the change we desire!
