On the Cancellation of Peace Talks
The Left is just like an aging diva throwing a tantrum and demanding the same terms for performing on a soap opera, trying to test the patience of a producer who has given too much already.
Well, the producer has just had enough and ordered the script to be rewritten to kill off the character of the diva.

Actually, it is not peace that the Left wants but a protracted war. It certainly profits from it. Peace means no more revolutionary taxes, no more support from foreign donors. And with that they lose relevance.
If you still have any doubt then picture this. Their ideological fixation is on a narrative that looks at revolutions as necessary, even if the objective conditions for such, which is one of their icons' theoretical contribution, has already shifted dramatically to a point that class-based struggles are no longer as pervasive as identity-based ones.
Ceasefire therefore is not something they would want. And peace that simply rests on the continuation of their theorized enemy will never be acceptable.
War is what they want. And it is the blood that spills, the collateral deaths that will surely pile up, that they will use in their posters to recruit people to augment their much-depleted ranks.
That is why they make these ridiculous demands.
Well, if you are an optimist, let us hope that all these posturings is just to get leverage in the peace talks, and that the President is simply just playing their game of words.
Otherwise, it is war they are going to get.
If I were Duterte, I will just ignore them. And deal with their recalcitrance no longer as ideological resistance, but simply as armed threats that should be dealt with according to the normal rules of engagement of a state protecting itself from rogue elements.
And then deliver development to the rural areas and the margins of society with a vengeance, fight for the rights of the Lumads, and the workers and the farmers. Deny the left the platform to exist. This will surely turn them into a force that is devoid of a cause.

If you still could not appreciate the lengths to which this President has to accommodate you, from allowing you freedom to have your demonstrations, to appointing your good people to join his Cabinet, toasting your leaders in the halls of Malacañang, and you still would insist on your hardline, then YOU ARE THE PROBLEM.

If there is one glaring example of how the Left could turn so wrong, it will be Colombia where some of its forces collaborated with drug cartels, as in the M19 attack on the Colombian Supreme Court, or when FARC took over the drug trade when the Cali and Medellin Cartels were dismantled.
