Persuade and Protect
I know it feels like we are at war. But in politics, the idea is to win people over to your side, and not to seek to destroy them. We wage war against foreign enemies. We do not destroy our own people.
Yet it is true that there are those who refuse to listen or have entrenched themselves in a particular side. For them, we need to be especially persuasive, as much as we need to protect the political affiliation we have chosen.
Why do I say protect? Because yes, there are those who seek to prevent us from persuading others. The acts of prevention subvert the nature of our democratic society.
And we need to address this by exposing those who are actively doing it, particularly those who hide behind fake or anonymous accounts or pages.
But never forget that the best way to support this administration is to convince others, to get them to see how we see this presidency and to increase our majority. Our strength is in our numbers. But we will not gain some peace if all we do is try to tear each other down.
By all means argue. Fight ideas with ideas, logic, reason. But it is a marketplace of ideas, not a battlefield. Persuade and protect.
