On the NPA's Claim that Duterte Failed to Deliver on his Promise
To which the perfect reply would be what???
In any negotiation, there is such a thing as negotiating posture. From the beginning, the President bent over backwards.
On the day of the inaugural, he invited Renato Reyes of Bayan and other militant leaders for merienda inside Malacañang while they were protesting at Mendiola Bridge. Prior to this, he appointed Rafael Mariano and Judy Taguiwalo to Cabinet posts. He later appointed Liza Maza Chair of the National Anti-Poverty Commission. He ordered Secretary of Justice Vitaliano Aguirre not to oppose the motion for bail of detained CPP leaders Benito and Wilma Tiamzon as the NDFP demanded that they be released as they were essential to the negotiations. This led Tiamzon and the other cadres to hold a reunion with Jose Ma. Sison in Utrecht for the first time since the start of the insurgency.
The President had no other ace card than the other "political" detainees still incarcerated. He was also the first to declare a unilateral ceasefire. The CPP/NPA/NDFP has no business questioning the sincerity of the President.
This is a PR nightmare for them. They cannot afford the cost as the public will perceive them more negatively. Their insurgency is the longest running in Asia. Communism as an ideology is dead. It is also what prevents foreign direct investment from coming in and developing the countryside.
The Redtards made the mistake of falling into the trap set by Duterte for them. He has called their bluff and gone all in because he can afford to. At this point the President and the AFP not only hold the physical high ground but the moral high ground as well. There will be a certain degree of demoralization among the members of the NPA. The leadership hierarchy led by Benito and Wilma Tiamzon are also in a bind. They will be arrested upon their return. Should they choose not to return, the Philippine government will cancel their passports and they will need to apply for political asylum. They will be political exiles. If they aren't granted political asylum they will assume the status of stateless persons and will face deportation. If the peace talks are to resume, they will need to make substantial concessions, again to the advantage of the government and the greater majority of the Filipino people.
