Greg Macabenta and the Concept of Epiphany

The Philippines needs a cathartic leader in order to get itself out of the rut it has been in since 1946. But it is ironic that a Fil-American again criticizes the President for his faults, particularly the fact that the accusations are based on his being a lowly city Mayor before he was elected President.

The Philippines is the epitome of a democracy gone mad to the point that it is already a democrazy. There are too many cooks spoiling the broth because each cook represents a vested interest group. The bar has been set very low for the delivery of government's basic services which is why Duterte looks like an oasis in the desert to the 16M Filipinos who voted for him. But still, faults are being found in his Presidency, which is only eight months into its term. There was no honeymoon period to begin with. It was pitched battles on several issues which continues to this day.

What Macabenta fails to acknowledge is how the President manages his time according to the priorities he has set in his mind. Compared to six years of the do nothing Presidency of Noynoy Aquino, Duterte is a welcome relief for Filipinos who are in favor of a more authoritative State.

What the Philippines needs is a benevolent dictator as John Mangun mentioned his column yesterday. At 72, Duterte definitely doesn't fit the bill. Macabenta and his Fil-Am ilk in the Bay Area continue to work with Loida Nicolas Lewis in pursuing their political agenda against the President. They believe that it is their right as dual citizens. But most "prominent" Fil-Ams suffer from an overbearing sense of entitlement, Macabenta included.

It's about time that these Fil-Ams be put in their proper places.
