A Tougher Ban

I think it's time that we impose a ban on candidates seeking office simply because a close relative of theirs, by blood or marriage, recently died. The ban will be imposed on people who use the family name of the recently deceased.

To make it fair, perhaps the ban should cover candidates seeking office in the next scheduled election only. They will be allowed to run in the election that takes place after the one covered by the ban.

But a tougher ban -- say covering the next three elections -- should be imposed on those who not only use the deceased's family name but who also attempt to assume the physical attributes of the person who died.
