An Aquino Promise Fulfilled by a Duterte

TO PAREDES & PATAG: No. The president has done absolutely nothing. Not a single thing!

Why don't you swallow a few of these CLOAs and get constipated for the rest of your lives?

WALA PA DIN NAGAWA SI PRESIDENTE. WALA TALAGANG NAGAWA, 'DI BA?

*********

Nearly 70 years ago (1958), Benigno (Ninoy) Aquino Jr. signed a contract to serially cede the Tabacallera Estate (later named Hacienda Luisita) to the farmers after 10 years.

It never happened.

Skip anon to 1986, his widow, Corazon C. Aquino was sworn into Malacañang as president of a so-called revolutionary government. During her term, the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Law - RA 6657 was passed in '88.

The farmers thought, finally, our claim has been solidified by a republic act! Did the land in Hacienda Luisita get distributed?

It never did.

Fast forward to 2011. Benigno Simeon Aquino III was elected president. In a cruel twist of history, yet another Aquino is made president. The Hacienda Luisita farmers were once again hopeful that perhaps, just perhaps, the promise made by the father will finally be fulfilled by the son.

Did the land get distributed?

Not only did the land never get distributed, parts of it were cut up and sold.

The original promise made by Aquino (Ninoy) to the Hacienda Luisita farmers had taken 60 long years and two Aquino presidencies (Cory and her son) to show to the Filipinos that they had absolutely no intention of making good on their commitment.

Now, to retired comedian (more like retired joke) Cynthia Patag and erstwhile pop singer James Paredes, the current president is both a despot and a failure.

Yet what had taken a total of three Aquinos and sixty years of filibustering, took this president only a few months to fulfill (albeit partially).

Typically, when someone fulfills a promise on your behalf, you'd be grateful and happy.

Why do I get the feeling that the Aquinos aren't thankful?

SO, YOU ARE CORRECT, PATAG AND PAREDES! NO! DUTERTE HAS DONE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
