On Truth

StartFragmentRein, one of our more noticeably intellectual followers, made this comment a while ago: "Truth stands on its own merit. To assert that something is true only when evidence proves it is fallacious thinking in the first place. If si Onyok ninakaw ang biik ni Gin at Jasmine, it is truth simply because it actually happened. And it remains true whether or not Gin & Jasmine know it and whether or not Gin & Jasmine file a case and prove the theft."

By definition, truth is the state of all truisms, which includes everything that is considered true. In each trial, the accused is either guilty or innocent - never both at the same time. No matter how the court may rule, or who it decides to favor, there exists a certain truth. This truth may be evident or hidden or concealed, it may even be reversed or suppressed, but it is the truth nonetheless.

Rein is correct. Truth stands on its own. Let us not make the mistake of equating truth with evidence. Aside from stories passed through word of mouth and ancient text, there is no physical evidence that Christ really ever existed. But that doesn't make it implausible or untrue.
